Best Blushes for Dark Skin

Best Blushes for Dark Skin

As a dark skin woman of color I know first-hand the struggles that come with choosing the right blush. I think women of color are often scared of blush because many of us don’t blush naturally, so we’re concerned with looking “overly-done.” However, my hope is that this post takes the guess -work out of choosing blushes that complement deeper skin tones.

I find thatthe  best blushes for dark skin fall in the berries, plums, and orange family. I steer clear of bright pinks as oftentimes they sit on the skin and look a bit chalky. Mostly, however, light/bright pinks simply don’t show up on my skin. I use blushes to add warmth and dimension to my face so these deeper and golden hues are the way to go.

1. Black Radiance Blush in Raspberry.

1. Black Radiance Blush in “Rasbperry.” is a deep red blush. It’s highly pigmented and looks glorious on deeper skin tones.  Even better, it’s super cheap and available at any drusgstore where Black Radiance is sold. Or you can buy it HERE.

2.  Nars Taj Mahal.

A beautiful golden orange shade that my weak swatches can’t seem to do justice. Just trust that if celebrity Makeup Artist, Sam Fine, hails it as THE blush for women of color, you need it in your collection. I know I do.

3. Coastal Scents Forever Blush in Alluring.

First of all, the Coastal Scents Forever Blushes are amazing. They are ridiculously pigmented and retail for only $7.95 each. I purchased the entire collection one day when they went on sale for 50% off.  While almost every single blush in the collection would complement deeper skin tones, in the essence of brevity I opted for two that I use most frequently. Alluring is a gorgeous, matte, berry-red shade I can’t live without.

4. Coastal Scents Forever Blush in Radiant

Radiant was the reason I even thought of buying these blushes. I was looking for a dupe for Nars Exhibit A Blush, and somehow stumbled upon Radiant as a possible dupe. I purchased it, took it to the local Sephora to compare it to Exhibit A, and indeed, it is a dupe! It’s a DEEP orange, almost red, shade that is a staple in my collection.

5. Mac Mineralize Blush  Love Thing

I really hope that by this time in our relationship you have grown to trust my opinion when it comes to makeup. When I tell you this blush is LIFE, and gives a radiant sheen/warmth/sparkle like no other ( well, almost, keep reading for more), I speak nothing but the whole truth.

6. Milani Baked Blush in Red Vino.

Milani Baked Blush in Red Vino is actually very close in color to “Love Thing.” The difference here is that Red Vino has golden sparkle whereas Love thing as a silver sparkle. Eitherway, you can’t go wrong with this blush. In fact, for my drugstore makeup divas, the Milani Baked blushes get an A+ from me.

*Bonus*

For the ladies who are still not convinced, don’t worry. I know, makeup can be scary, but one of my favorite blushes for women of color who are looking to transition into blushes is actually a bronzer. It’s the Cover girl Queen Collection Bronzer in Ebony Bronze, and it can totally double as a blush. Just looking at it you may not be able to see it, but trust me when I tell you this deep warm brown is gorgeous on deeper skin and is a nice “Warm up” to experimenting with blushes. 1. thank you for sharing!
as you said, finding blush (makeup as a whole, if we’re being honest) as a woman of color is truly a feat in itself.
i’m excited to check out some of these colors on your list, particularly “lovejoy” by mac.

i couldn’t agree more re: taj mahal – i was hesitant when i first saw it in all its orange glory but it’s beyond beautiful on our skin.
for a more everyday look, i live for mac’s “raizin”!!
a must have in my opinion.
and i can’t live with out mac’s “gold deposit” as a highlight.

ps. i swear i don’t work for mac, haha.

You are so beautiful and I love your makeup. I wish I could be as beautiful as you when I’m wearing makeup.. ^^
I am a woman of color, and in my country, me and my people, we are minority. So there is NO product that specificaly made for us, whether its for the hair, for skin, or for makeup.. so you can imagine how makeup works for us in our special occasion such as wedding, graduation, etc.. we have to fit in, use anything that is already there for us although it is not fit our skin tone. If we want something spesific, then we have to buy it online..
Its difficult to find something exactly like what you just share, but thanks for the useful information. Maybe next time I could buy it online, though I’m not sure they can deliver that product right in front of my door..

    Cheers..

    Ps.
Forgive my english. Its not my native language and I’m still learning..

    1. Your English is fine! Where are you located? I’m sure you can order some things online!

  5. Thanks for the helpful tip because I always got confused when it cam to wearing blush.

  6. Thank you for writing this! I am Indian and have lived here all my life in the US, but never found the appropriate suggestions for makeup for my skin tone. I have to thank you especially because a few other bloggers recommended Nars or Mac, and they are a bit pricey. I am thrilled to see Coastal Scents, I went to their site and the blushes are half price, with a maximum of three per customer. I bought three, Radiant, Alluring, and Exquisite. I can wait till they arrive and try them. Thanks for giving me an affordable, but beautiful alternative for what I hope will be great looking blush.

Thank you for writing about affordable dupes for Nars and Mac! I bought three Coastal Scents, in Alluring, Radiant and Exquisite. They were on sale for half price!
