Alicia Keys is Actually Wearing Makeup (So Says Her Makeup Artist)

The last time I questioned Alicia Keys’ “No Makeup Movement,” I was called every name in the book. In fact, I believe I disabled comments on that post because folks had the pitch forks ready. Now, Alicia Keys’ Makeup Artist reveals that the singer does, in fact, wear some makeup.

According to Keys’ makeup artist, Dotti, Alicia does where some makeup while “performing or ‘Voice’ judging.” This includes filling in the her brows, enhancing her freckles or giving her cheeks a warm glow with a self-tanner.

Dotti also says:

Alicia gets regular facials, does acupuncture and she eats healthy and exercises…She knows you have to invest internally for your skin to look great externally. It’s also about how you process your energy. She comes from a very strong place and she comes from a very kind place. That in itself is super important. But it’s about the choices she’s making and the products she’s using. It’s the work of a good team.  W Magazine

For the record, I never had an issue with Ms. Keys going bare face. I just didn’t then and I don’t know believe the act warranted a PR campaign and Lenny Letter.  But there you have it, wearing makeup isn’t a sign you don’t love yourself, it’s just enhancing what you already have going on. You can wear as little or as much as you’d like.

Here are a few of my favorite products for when I want to go for a more “Natural Look.”

Velvet Matte Skin Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 30

I wear it in “Polynesia” and it’s amazing coverage for a tinted moisturizer, without giving you the “makeup look.” Buy it HERE.

SheaMoisture Selfie Duo Powder Lite

SheaMoisture Selfie Duo Powder Lite

This little duo is amazing. The setting powder sets your skin to a nice matte finish and the darker color, gives you a nice daytime contour. I use this in the color “Deep.”

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

And lastly, my favorite natural-looking lip color is

NYX Lip Liquid Suede in Soft-Spoken

Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick

Well Hello! My name is Lisa and you’ve stumbled upon my own little corner of the world. I’m a lipstick-loving, high heel junkie, mom, and wife. When I’m not here bringing you the latest in beauty, fashion, hot topics, and bits and pieces of my life with my family, you can find me over on youtube swatching lipsticks and sharing my latest natural hairstyles. Make sure you also follow me on Instagram and Snapchat under my brand name Lisa A La Mode. I’m a real person. I promise.

  1. I am so glad to finally hear what I knew all along. There is nothing wrong with wearing no makeup, I don’t and I’m 44, but if you wear some thing don’t go around saying you don’t have any on. That’s just being dishonest to your fans. I applaud you Lisa.

  2. I’m sorry to hear you got such a backlash for your other post! That’s not really fair. Personally I’m a bigger fan of this more natural but enhanced look than one where someone is so covered up that they don’t look like themselves anymore. Getting regular facials and having pros around who can help you look your very best helps a lot.
