“I’m So Tired of My Natural Hair!” Hair Vlogger Weeps As She Considers Cutting Her Natural Hair

Naturally Phillo, a gorgeous Youtube Hair Vlogger is fed up with her natural hair.  She’s so fed up, in fact, that she took to her channel to share her woes as she contemplates cutting her hair.  To be honest, I’m not quite sure what to make of her video. I know natural hair is deep for us, but the emotion displayed feels a bit out of scope. Take a look:

Have you ever felt this way about your natural hair?

  1. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and desires. I thought she was crying about wanting to perm her hair again not about getting a haircut. This is ridiculous! Everyone is entitled to switching it up again. As long as you love yourself and your roots I believe you could do whatever you want to your hair. And that’s what we need to teach black women and little black girls❤

    1. This struggles maybe deeper than we expect. Crying over wanting a change is ridiculous. Baby girl you can still inform and or tutor with shorter hair. The information is key and yes there is an emotional attachment that forms once you rebell from the norm. On a more serious note, I’ to am struggling with cutting my hair as well, all I can say is DO YOU! If 3 years is your limit. Then that’s it

Crying without coming to terms with self is the issue. I say cut it off and be free OR find a really good natural stylist that can ease your hankering for straight hair. Happiness can be achieved with natural hair short or long with a little help from a stylist

If all else fails. CUT. It will grow back

    2. Thats my thing …..Variety is the Spice of Life …..Do You Boo

  2. No… never wigs weave, braids, twists, heyell, even heat are options… I 12years in this year and never been thru this. Bless her soul tho.

  3. Its seems like there is something else going in that life ! Some type of self degradation. What ever is going be honest and true with yourself. The affect about natural hair is natural is off..,its deeper than hair you were born with. I hope that you get some help. praying for her.

  4. Okay I have to admit I have been there! My hair never turns out like the tutorials but I am hanging in there. Find a style you like and get it professionally done.

  5. It hides much deeper problems in her life in my opinion… And she cristalized it in her hair… Hope she’ll find what the real issue is… God bless her

I did my big chop in 1997, and kept twa for 10 years! And then I wanted to do something different and to be honest, I did go back to the crackcream for 2 seconds and then I remembered why I quit. I’ve been back to the natural roots since and now I keep my hair in a twa which requires very low maintenance.
So girl, my suggestion is to do what feels best because it always about how you feel about yourself, and if you’re not inspired or feeling the love, then, it’s perfectly fine to go in another direction. I support your decision whatever that may be. Be blessed with the hair journey, and that’s all it is … and about discovering you. In the end, girl, it doesn’t matter if it’s long or short. It’s about you loving you.

  7. I love my hair, but if shr want to cut her hair I don’t see the problem cut it. There has to be something else going on with her.

  8. I can so relate to this. Sometimes growing your hair can be very frustrating especially when you are not getting the results you are expecting.
However I usually get my hair braided or a weave when I find myself struggling to deal with it. I guess the journey is different for each of us, I find it’s easier if you don’t have too much expectations about what your hair should look like . Wishing you well sister and what ever you decide is the right decision for you.

  9. Maybe it’s not “something else going on” y’all. 4C hair maintenance is stressful af! I cry every now and then….yeah yeah I know all coily hair requires maintenance and type doesn’t matter, blah blah blah….but it matters with that super thick 4c like hers and mine. It becomes more and more overwhelming the longer it gets. The detangling alone takes forever, let alone product application and other daily care to combat extreme dryness and single strand knots. I just so understand her pain and pray she gets through her struggle and does whatever will truly make her happy

    1. For real. I feel it every wash day ya’ll. It ain’t easy.

    2. I’m right there with you. As a matter of fact I cried this morning as I took my hat off to matted hair. I have been natural for over 8 years and I am seriously contemplating a relaxer. I would choose alternate styles but I don’t do welll with those. It’s only hair it will grow back.

  10. Who said that natural meant “long”?? If you or anyone want a short tapered natural or a complete buzz cut, that makes you mo less natural then the sister who has hair past her shoulders! And you are right!! The longer it gets, the more work it is. It can be a drag to have to do what ever moisture method a natural sister does and the braiding or twisting it EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. My hair does NOT do day old twist outs well AT ALL, so I have to do it nightly. Being an older woman who has injured and arthritic hands and shoulders makes this all the more difficult. So I get it. You sick of it. You do you, young lady. Cut it, taper it, shave it, braid it, weave it…hell, relax it. IT IS YOUR CHOICE. And wish the ones who crap on you well. God is your judge. He loves you regardless.

    1. It’s Just Hair. Try cutting alo of it off, so you wont have so much yo deal with. Stop blogging about your hair, give yourself a break and go have some fun. Take a deep breath…….it’s only hair…..alot of hair which some sick people wish they had. Live your life.

  11. I empathize with the young lady especially as I notice she has a thicker grade of hair. I have severely shortened the amount of time I spent on wash day as my hair gets longer. I have also committed to protective styles for the winter which is one style- cornrows back at an angle with a faux puff on the end. It last two weeks with a retwist. Also, she is an athlete. If she sweats or even swims, that’s dealing with your hair – daily. There’s no stretch to the end of the week with the smell (or chlorine) without damage. Heat is out!

I respect her commitment to sharing her struggle and perhaps there may be deeper emotional triggers for this, but I believe she needs our support. Black is beautiful – that is the foundation of the natural movement. It doesn’t matter how you wear your hair. Loving the skin you are in is the most important.

P.S. I am five years in and have big chopped twice. It grows back, better than ever! Be at peace, sister woman – all will be well.

I can relate, sometimes this natural hair can take you there.

  13. I can’t spend 6 minutes of my life watching this but she needs to get to the root of the real problem because if you crying this hard over cutting your hair then there are some deeper issues present.

  14. “I know natural hair is deep for us, but the emotion displayed feels a bit out of scope.” I think that was a quite unnecessary judgement, everybody’s entitled to their own opinion. We (especially black women) are so often told to be strong and to keep it together, but I applaud her for being so vulnerable and honest. I and many others have felt like that, but it always felt like we were the only ones struggling and the vloggers and the bloggers always had it together, so I felt even more like I was doing something wrong. Kudos to her for being so upfront about her emotions and the not so cute side of natural hair.

    1. Well I’ve cried on my channel as well, so no one is mad she is crying. I’m as transparent as they come, always have been and always will be. Now, I shared an obvservation that she was crying about more than her hair. By the way, she even admitted as much in her next video. Go ahead and read where she writes that she had a lot going on, more than the hair frustration. The bottom line is on this platform, I won’t be policed. You may not like what I have to say or my opinions, but it is the way I run this platform. So if you’re expecting that I not share my opinion or that I express myself the way you want me to, this may not be the space for you.

  15. Sis… I support you!! You are beautiful now and you will be just as beautiful if you go short natural!! Maybe even more so because it will bring out your beautiful features!! You hair is a part of you. You have control over it. Go and get it deep conditioned and braided… Or get it cut really short… But please… It hurts my heart to see you so sad and crying!! It will always grow back!! PEACE!!

Whatever you’re going through, Baby, sort it out.
And do whatever is needed to feel better. If that means cutting your hair or do anything to ease your life and ease yourself, well, go on and do it.
That, also, IS being natural and happy.
    Love yourself.
Be good and kind to yourself.
    Ease yourself, rase your life.
Do whatever you need to feel letter.
    Sending hugs and warmth.

  17. Everybody with short hair does not have short hair because it wont grow. People actually cut their hair. Its a personal choice. The goal of long hair is not synonymous with going natural. I do feel for her. She seems to be having a bad hair day.
