Skincare for Oily Skin

Skincare for Oily Skin

I’m a greasy girl. Not by choice, but it’s true. The skin on my face produces far too much sebum. Which, as I understand it,  has its benefits related to ant-aging, but mostly it’s a big ole pain, ESPECIALLY if you like to wear makeup.

For a very long time I was on the hunt for the “perfect” primer. something that would magically keep my face oil/shine free, but I’ve come to realize that a great primer is only part of the solution. You MUST adhere to a skincare routine for oily skin.

By the way, my two primers of choice include Becca Ever Matte Poreless primer , and Calamine lotion reviewed HERE.

1. Okay, first up, you have to make sure you remove all traces of makeup. I like to use face cleansing cloths before washing my face, like these ones I pick up from Marshall’s or TJMaxx:

These are only $4.99 for 60 wipes, so they are a god buy. I also really like the Simple cleansing wipes which I occasionally pick up from Target.

2. Next, I follow up with my Holy grail cleanser which is  Trader Joe’s SPA Face Wash with Tea Tree, reviewed HERE.  This stuff is magic. It TOTALLY gets your face 100% clean without feeling stripped.

I have it pictured above with  Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash with Organic Tea Tree Oil and Awapuhi because they are identical.  If you don’t live near a Trader Joe’s where you can buy the bottle pictured above for around $4 or $5, you can order a 32 ounce bottle of the Dessert Essence brand for $13.

3. I also think it’s super important to invest in a cleansing brush. Like THIS one.

4. A solid moisturizer is also really important. Most people believe that if you have oily skin you don’t need a moisturizer, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. You need an oil-free moisturizer so that your skin know to stop making excess sebum (oil).

5. Last, but not least you need to invest in a detox mask. I’ve tried several of the Glam Glow face masks and I love them all, but my favorite is the exfoliating mask. If you try any of the glam glow masks your face will thank you 100 fold. However, if you’re not in the market for something with a $48 price tag, I also like the Freeman Avocado Clay mask. Clay masks, in general, are great for folks who need to balance their oily skin.
