How to Install a U-Part Wig on Short Natural Hair

When I was first making the decision to cut my hair, one of the many complaints I read about tapered haircuts is that it’s limiting, but that has not been my experience. I absolutely love my tapered haircut. I’ve managed to create so many styles with it and I’m just getting started.

Most recently I decided that I wanted long hair for a day, and as a designated “Big Chop Beauty,” I was able to score a “blown straight u-part wig.” The texture of the wig is such that it allows for easier blending with natural hair. It’s very low lustre, so it matched perfectly once I blow dried and flat ironed my hair straight.

The Steps:

  1. Blow dry you hair
  2. section your hair, leaving a large enough section to cover the opening of the wig
  3. put on the wig to make sure the hair you’ve sectioned to cover is large enough to cover.
  4. braid the rest of your hair as flat as possible. if your hair is short like mine, use boppy pins to help it lay flat
  5. Snap on the wig
  6. flat iron your leave out to match the texture of the wig
  7. Since I didn’t want to cut the wig to layer it, I found that my short front didn’t quite blend well, so I opted to braid the front of my hair and pin it back.
  8. Create loose beachy waves using a flat iron and you’re done!

One thing you should know, however, is that since I have very little hair on the sides of my head, the wig cannot be attached all the way around. The wig is secure, but if you have short hair like me it won’t be a snug fit.
