How To Make Sure Your Makeup Stays Oil-Proof This Summer
I have oily skin year round, so if I don’t take special care to ensure my skin stays as matte as possible, my face will produce enough oil to fry a whole chicken. With that being said, I’ve compiled a list f products I use to keep skin matte, but it begins with skincare.
Skincare
I recommend that you find a skincare routine that is meant to combat oily skin. I’ve shared some of my favorite products in this post. But I have to take a minute to shout out Trader Joe’s Spa Tea Tree Oil Cleanser. This stuff is amazing at removing makeup, and keeping my face oil free. Top it off with a toner, moisturizer (YES you need to moisturize oily skin), and a serum (Vitamin C), and you’ll be golden.
Primers
Now let’s talk makeup primers. The following primers are ones that I have personally tried and find to be the most effective in keeping my face oil-free during the hot summer months. I won’t lie, there have been times that I have combined two or more of these at once. You’re going to have to try them individually or mix and match to find the best combination for your skin.
Milk of Magnesia
The absolute best at keeping your face oil-free. However, Milk of Magnesia can do a number on your skin. After all, it’s meant to be ingested, not applied topically to your skin. That being said, I always apply a primer beneath milk of magnesia to make sure my skin is protected. Even still, I wouldn’t recommend it for daily use. I use it for filming tutorials and on days when I know I won’t be able to blot my skin. If you’re getting married or attending a summer wedding, use it! Buy it at your local pharmacy or HERE.
Calamine Lotion
A great alternative to Milk of Magnesia. Just like MOM, it’s cheap and can be purchased at any drugstore in the US. While it doesn’t work as well as MOM, it’s safe to use on the skin and it’s actually pretty great at clearing up acne! Check out how to apply it HERE and Shop for it HERE.
Monistat Soothing Care Chafing Relief Powder-Gel
Don’t freak out. The ingredients in M.A.G. mirror the ingredients in many expensive primers. I like to apply it beneath MOM, but it can also be used alone. Buy it HERE.
Becca Cosmetics Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector
One of only two high-end primers that actually work. Buy it HERE.
Makeup Forever Step 1 Mattifying Primer
It works, it works really well. When I really want to go absolutely shine-free I mix this with MOM as well. Buy it HERE.
I have crazy oily skin as well. I use nyx primer under my tinted moisturizer then I use NYC white finishing powder on top. Works really well to keep oil at bay for most of the day. Also infallible foundation works well but unfortunately they don’t have a color to math my skin tone exactly.
gotta try those!
Rimmel’s Fix & Perfect Pro is really good for oily skin too. I’ve been using it for a while, and even when I don’t wear makeup I put it on after my moisturizer for a nice matte look.
I used to be a fan of MOM but it really messed with my skin quite a bit so I resorted to just having to blot before applying my primer and then blotting before reapply powder & setting spray.
I have gotten fed up with my oily skin so coming across this blog was really helpful.
I have too have a blog where I talk about mostly workout motivation. Do you have a newsletter? I need to get mine up and running.
I have very oily skin and so far I could not find a primer that works for me. I’m happy to say that I tried calamine lotion n my make up is now flawless so thank you for the suggestion Lisa
