5 Drugstore Sunscreens Won’t Leave You With Ashy Skin
Everybody needs sunscreen year round, but when summer hits many of us spend more and more time outside. This means it’s time to step up our sunscreen game. For many years I didn’t bother with sunscreen because I was tired of the white caste they all seemed to leave on my skin. Also, let’s be honest, black people have often supported the “we don’t need sunscreen” myth. But we do, so here is a list of a several sunscreens you can buy at your local drugstore that won’t leave that god awful white/ashy caste on your skin.
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist.
Sprays on and just melts into the skin.
Aveeno Active Naturals Protect + Hydrate for Face SPF 50 Sunscreen Lotion
This is best used on dry skin because it’s moisturizing, but it blends in beautifully and keeps your face protected.
Hawaiian Trop Silk Hydration Weightless Lotion Sunscreen.
Moisturizes, protects, and smells like a dream.
Beach Defense (Broad Spectrum SPF 70)
Hawaiian Tropic Dry Oil Clear Spray Sunscreen (broad spectrum SPF 30)
What is your favorite sunscreen?
Hey, Boo! My name is Lisa and you’ve stumbled upon my own little corner of the world. I’m a 30 something-year-old writer/mother/wife who happens to love lipstick, high heels, blackness, and the truth. You’ll find a mix of everything on this site, so I won’t bore you by trying to define this space. I hope you stay awhile!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For this list. I know there are lots of boutique brands that have ash free sunscreen but I do not want to spent that much just for my body. Do you find the Hawaian Tropic scent lingers long? I like the smell of coconut but will also spend time in professional areas so being heavily scented will be a problem.
I can’t use a near one of these because I have a photoallergy when the sun comes in contact with chemical absorbers on my skin. I can only wear mineral/natural sunscreens either titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. If I wear anything else outside my skin breaks out in hives when it has prolonged contact with the sun and I itch for days.
Wearing sunscreen daily will help to protect your complexion against harmful UV rays that make scars darker. Or you can try a product with vitamin C to help even out discoloration from post-breakout scars.
