Nura Afia is Covergirl’s Newest Brand Ambassador
Covergirl is fast becoming one of the most inclusive beauty brands and I am so here for it. Last month the brand announced James Charles (read about it HERE) as their first male ambassador, and now they’ve added Hijab-donning, Muslim beauty, Nura Afia to the lineup. Afia resides in Colorado, however, she is of Moroccan, Swiss, and Lebanese descent.
Yesterday, Covergirl announced beauty Vlogger, Nura Afia as the newest ambassador for their new So Lashy! BlastPro Mascara.
Afia told CNN:
It’s a big accomplishment for all of us…It means that little girls that grew up like me have something to look up to. I grew up feeling like hijab would hold me back.
She also told Refinery 29,
I hope [this campaign] will show Muslim women that brands care about us as consumers and we’re important, especially hijabis.
Afia’s ambassadorship means she’ll appear in commercials and on a billboard in Times Square. More importantly, however, her alignment with this very American and very recognizable brand will, undoubtably, help to remove the stigma and fear many people still hold against those who practice Islam.
I’m doing this because I want there to be a time when my daughter grows up when she knows she can be anything she wants to be…It doesn’t matter what her beliefs are or what she looks like.
Hats off to Covergirl and Congrats to Nura Afia! For more from Nura follow her youtube channel HERE and her Instagram HERE.
