Snoop Dogg’s Daughter Posts a Inspiring Message For Dark Skin Beauties

Snoop Dogg’s daughter, Cori Broadus, is only 17 years-old, but she’s wise beyond her years. Cori has always been what one might consider the “red-headed step-child” in her family. She bears a strong resemblance to her mother, but her complexion is the darkest in her immediate family.snoop-dog-daughter

And as we know, Colorism continues to be a problem in many communities. Even Djimon Hounsou’s son has expressed his desire for lighter skin (read about it HERE). And as much as we can profess that kids who are taught self-love at home won’t have these troubling desires, we all know society glorifies light skin. Children do not live in a bubble, and the outside world has a way of creeping in and undoing some of the work done at home.

That’s why Cori’s latest Instagram post was so very important. Read it here:

snoop-dogg-daughterAs a dark skin woman myself, I can tell you that I’ve only learned to truly love the skin I am in in the last decade. When I was a girl I would have greatly benefited from a famous person my own age denouncing colorism and declaring that black is indeed beautiful.

Hat’s off to Cori for realizing what has taken many of us decades to learn.

Hi, I’m Bianca. I to em the darkest out of my immediate family. Mother from Puerto Rico n father from Detroit. When I was little,i didn’t understand y I was dark, but brother n sisters were light bright almost white. Ppl tried to down me for it, but I new in my heart I was beautiful, n what they said was garbage. I grew into myself n into my features n now I’m unstoppable. Always love urself no matter what cause God don’t make no mistakes. What some ppl mark as ugly or trash is beautiful n a treasure for others. LOVE YOURSELF NO MATTER WHO DON’T!!!

  6. GURL…you are absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Your skin is soooo smooth like chocolate. You will probably look like that even when you are 100 yrs old, and with no wrinkles. You know out of darkness came light so they came from you so don’t let em hate on ya cause you were here first and are all the colors in the world. Keep smiling that beautiful smile and hold your head up cause in reality…they want what you got…just trying to convince you otherwise. The jokes on them.

    1. Hi Tami, i’m not sure if this comment is meant for me, or for Cori, but Cori didn’t write this post so she won’t see your comment. You should find her on twitter or instagram. I’m sure she’d be happy to hear from you.

What dark skin? We’re all black. To white people, color doesn’t matter.

    1. Claudette says:

The views of white people on dark skin is irrelevant. Eurocentric views through slavery and colonialisam is what started colourism in the first place. It’s for us as black people to love ourselves and stop favouring light over dark.
