Shalom Blac is, by far, one of the most inspirational people I’ve read about this year. Runner up would have to be fellow burn survivor, Andrea Grant, whom you can read about HERE.
20-year-old Shalom, however, is more than a survivor. She’s a warrior. Having survived being burned by hot oil in her mother’s kitchen in Nigeria, and spending 4-months in the hospital, the title warrior doesn’t even feel fitting enough.
She survived, as we know, but was left with permanent scars. Scars which children used as ammunition for their relentless teasing and name-calling.
When she moved to America she hoped the bullying would come to an end, but it only got worse.
“To the point where I actually considered suicide. I remember one day just taking a knife and going into the bathroom and just looking at myself, and wondering why people just don’t like me. and why they see a monster.”
Eventually, Shalom says she began working on herself, and discovered she is beautiful from the inside.
I don’t regret what happened to me. I feel like this is my calling.
Now Shalom is a YouTube sensation. She has well over a 200,000 subscribers, and continues to inspire people world-wide with her stunning transformation videos.

Hey, Boo! My name is Lisa and you’ve stumbled upon my own little corner of the world. I’m a 30 something-year-old writer/mother/wife who happens to love lipstick, high heels, blackness, and the truth. You’ll find a mix of everything on this site, so I won’t bore you by trying to define this space. I hope you stay awhile!
