Allie Dowdle-GO-FUND-ME

Becky, I mean Allie Dowdle, is an 18-year old girl from Memphis, TN, who is hell-bent on keeping her black boyfriend no matter what her parents say. According to Allie’s GoFundMe:

About a year ago, I told my parents that I’d started dating a boy named Michael, pictured with me above. Hoping to share him with my family, I showed my parents his picture, and the conversation was over before it even began. My dad did not give me an option:  he told me that I was not allowed to see Michael ever again. Why? Strictly because of skin color.  It wasn’t a quiet “no,” either. I’ll never forget the yelling my parents did, when they expressed how disappointed they were in me, that I could do so much better.  I did not know what to do. I couldn’t comprehend how someone could be seen as less because of pigment. I still can’t comprehend it, and I never will be able to.

According to Allie, after refusing to dump her boyfriend, her parents cut her off financially:

As I am 18, my parents have chosen to no longer support my future, stripping me of all my resources including my personal savings, my car, my phone, and my education and leaving me on my own to pay for college. Unfortunately, I will no longer be able to attend college if I cannot come up with the money somehow. My parents also got involved with my school in attempt to get me removed from the organizations I’ve been a part of, like Coexist and Facing History and Ourselves, clubs that essentially encourage valuing and treating people equally.

She’s asking strangers to “help stop racism,”  by donating their hard-earned money to her financial well-being. How donating to Allie will help end racism is beyond me. What’s more, her parents deny the allegations:

According to an interview with the New York Daily News:

Her father, Bill Dowdle, who owns a sporting goods store, told the Daily News that his daughter dating a black man may not be his “preference” because of “issues” involved with biracial dating in the South, but that it is not his place to pick who she dates now that she is 18.

The elder Dowdle said “it was never about race,” that he is not a racist and that his daughter’s statements about race are “a justification and gave her the moral high ground.”

He said that he and his wife would accept whomever their daughter wanted to date, but that he disapproved of both Michael and a previous boyfriend in part because Allie had started seeing them in secret.

During a time when race relations in this country have become increasingly volatile, and every day people are legitimately losing their lives and livelihood due to intolerance and discrimination, this GoFundMe campaign is the height of privilege and entitlement.  Check it out HERE for more.

  1. So you been knowing your parents for 18 years and this guy for a short time and you put your parents on blast because of your feelings.
You are worried and complaining about your parents not paying your tuition when so many of us(black women) had to prepare to pay for our college since we were little girls as our parents income was just keeping us fed and a roof over our heads.
Basically what you are saying is you want the privilege, but not the prejudice that comes with being with a black man(?)
The world is not there yet so get prepared to have a man who is as good as another but get turned down because he of the color of his skin.
Get prepared for others who feel as you feel your parents feel to make you feel like you do not deserve it( what ever that it is)
Get prepared for your child’s confusion as you try to convince him/her they are mixed (what ever that means) in a world that will consider them black like the rest of us who are descendants of African/white mix from slavery.
Be prepared to accept the stress of not knowing if your black man will be gunned down by a banger or another trigger happy person.
Be prepared to be able to afford to live in a certain area but denied because of your black mate.
Be prepared to understand and comfort him when he expresses his disparity over the racial injustices he will face.

Honor your mother and your father so that your days on the earth may be long.

If you really love him, get a job and pay for your school like the rest of us who are not privileged do-
Why do you think this little book is so important-it’s to encourage kids who would never think they can.
Then again maybe I need to set up a Gofundme page to pay for my education 😂

    1. just so you know. you’ve commented on my blog, not Allie’s GoFundMe. So if you want her to see this comment, you should probably comment there.

I needs a Blond Hair Weave to have more fun….again…can ya’ll help a Sistah Out???

  3. Lisa don’t you think that its double standards that you started with Becky then proceeded to clarify? THERE is a big problem called racism and perpetuating it with pseudonyms is just as bad as being full fledged racist. Weather or not her story checks out no one was forced to donate. As a pro blogger with a following you should stay above petty and not perpetuate or condone any vice in any way or form. WE RISE ABOVE HATE! never the other way round if we are to get rid of racism and whats wrong with the world.

    1. 1. I think it would be wise if you took the opportunity to understand the meaning of the word racism, as calling an entitled brat the word “becky,” isn’t even close to an example of perpetuating hate or racism. 2. I think it would also behoove you to understand that this is my platform, and I will NEVER kowtow to you or anyone else when it comes to expressing how I feel. If you think you or anyone can police the way in which I express myself, you clearly have me fucked up, Grace. If you don’t like it, I encourage you to unfollow me and remove this blog from your list of readings. This clearly isn’t the place for you. I wish you well, though!
