#BlackgirlMagic: You Won’t Believe What This Adorable 4-Year-Old Girl Has Done

Daliyah Marie Arana has read over 1,000 books, and she’s only 4 years old. Not 10 books. Not 100 books. Not 1,000 books. Over one whole thousand books, all before starting kindergarten. Her reading ability caught the attention of Carla Hayden, the 14th Librarian of Congress. Hayden hosted Daliyah at the Library of Congress, allowing her to shadow her as “librarian for the day.”

Before Daliyah was even born, her mother Haleema Arana was reading to her throughout her pregnancy. By the time she was 18 months, she was starting to recognize words in the books Haleema was reading to her.

Here’s Daliyah just before she turned 3 reading a book on her own.

Now 4 years old, Daliyah is able to read books that her 10- and 12-year-old siblings are reading at school. She is even reading some college-level books! Check her out reading a speech called “The Pleasure of Books” by William L Phelps.

Daliyah’s mom, Haleema, hopes that sharing these videos of her daughter reading will encourage other parents to start introducing books to their children, even as an infant. We’re inspired!
