When I first wrote about not really being here for Alicia Keys’s #nomakeupmovement, so many of y’all came for me. Y’all dragged me up and through the comments, lol! But it’s all good. I can take it (read the posts Here and Here.)
I hope to God it’s a revolution.
‘Cause I don’t want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing.
Keys’ expounded her her thoughts during her Allure interview. stating:
I am all about a woman’s right to choose. I think a woman should do anything she wants as it relates to her face, her body, her health. Whatever mode of expression that empowers you, that’s what you should do. What I am not down for is this ridiculously high, unrealistic expectation about appearance that we as women are held to.
I’m not a slave to makeup. I’m not a slave to not wearing makeup either. I get to choose at [any] given moment. That’s my right.”
So there you have it folks, she wears makeup when she feels like it.
Anyhoo, I hope we can all now go back to our make-up loving/hating/indifferent selves without further interruption.
