Refresh and Renew: How I’m Getting My Life ALL The Way Together in the New Year
When the new year rolls around it seems as though everyone and her mama is running around proclaiming their resolutions, and all of the drastic changes to be made to self in the new year.
And I get it, who doesn’t like new things? And Hope? And Promise? I know I do! But I also know that resolutions can also be a recipe for disaster. We usually start out strong, but by March or April our resolutions become a distant memory.
That’s why this year I don’t have any resolutions. Instead, I’m making small, incremental changes to my home life to put me in the position for clearer thought and sharper execution. In other words, I’m cleaning house! I’ve spent the last few weeks working on reorganizing my most cherished spaces, particularly my closet an my bathroom (where I do my hair and makeup), and I’m already accomplishing so much more than I had this time last year.
How You Can Get Your Life ALL The Way Together in the New Year
First, clean out the spaces you inhabit most frequently. Those spaces for me include my closet and my beauty station AKA Bathroom.
I even Put JB to work
While cleaning the bathroom, I focused on the sink. This sink is where I style my hair, and where I know I’ve been washing my shedding locs down the drain.
Incidentally, I used Liquid Plumr to clear out all that gunk and get my sink back to running smoothly. Also, FYI, I’m starting a healthy hair challenge in the next few weeks to combat my shedding. I’ve already ordered a protein treatment and trimming sheers to start the process off right!
Finally, consider creating a vision board.
Vision boards serve as visual representations of everything you want to come to fruition in the new year. They help to keep you focused on your goals. All you have to do is find images of the things you look forward to happening in your life, and tape or glue them to your board. Once completed you’ll want to place your vision board in a location where you can see it every day. By the end of the year, you’ll be able to go back to your vision board and pinpoint the things that came to pass. It’s pretty magical. And, if you want, you can take it a step further and host a vision board party. I hosted one locally last week and we had a blast! Watch here:
