Gabby Sidibe is fast becoming my favorite actress ever. In a recent interview with People magazine she revealed that she underwent weight loss surgery almost a year ago due to health concerns. You can read the full story HERE.
Now, she’s opening up even more about how she got to be the Gabby we know and love in a raw and emotional interview for Nylon Magazine.
Gabby, who has a memoir coming out next month (read about it HERE), reveals that she was beaten and called names by her Dad and other family members:
“For a long time, my father was dead to me.”
But Gabby isn’t letting the weight of her past weigh her down.
“The six-year-old in me is still pissed, but I don’t think I am a victim. I don’t want people to shed tears for me. He beat me, but we have all been through shit.”
And she’s honest about the fact that she’s still processing the events of her past, and working on herself.
“A lot of people will write a book and pretend that whatever they are writing about they are done with, and now they are perfect. I’m not perfect.”
And she is real AF.
I am just as fucked up. I am who I am, and all of this shit in my life will be a struggle forever…but I’m fine. Well, I’m becoming fine.”
