Protests Erupt After Asian-Owned Beauty Supply Store Owner Assaults Black Customer

Two weeks ago I penned an open letter wherein I expressed how important it is for us to uplift black business owners. While many of us will go out of our way to champion the cause of the black business owner, and equal number of us feel comfortable publicly expressing why we have problems with shopping from our own  You can read my post HERE, but the video below says it all:

“I don’t know, it just happened. I went crazy…No matter what the reason, I feel very sorry to her and to them.”

Lim insists that the woman did steal something and plans to release the surveillance footage to police. No arrests have been made.

While I’ve never been assaulted in an an asian-owned beauty supply store I have certainly been accused of stealing. The reality is that many of us who frequent these stores do so knowing that we’re going to be disrespected. Still, we continue to shop at these venues, and we rarely publicly out them for the way in which they treat us.

This happens a lot. Just watch this video of a teenager being assaulted at a nail salon. This video is even more disturbing as many witnesses jump to the defense of the man assaulting the teenage girl:

Despite these examples,  my timeline is  routinely filled with members of our community bashing black-business owners for one reason or another. Being treated poorly by any business owner is unacceptable, but we have to be better publicly supporting and uplifting our own.

  1. I want to say thank you for the video as well as the article as a whole. After my brother was accused of stealing at an Asian-owned establishment in the mid 90’s I and my family as well have not patronized any nail salon or hair care store that they own, and am thrilled that blacks are now beginning to finally open up their own establishment so that I may shop with them.
It’s time for us as a people to stop giving our money to people who could give a crap about us.

      1. Blacks should stop patronizing their restaurants buying Chinese food.

This is ridiculous as I here the other Black Women in the background telling the Women to just lay down INSTEAD OF WALKING THE HELL OUT OF THAT STORE. 12. My unpopular reply to this is she really shouldn’t have stolen the eyelashes. I find it very difficult to stand in defense of a thief. Were she totally innocent I could agree but though his reaction was harsh he was justified in trying to protect his merchandise and livelihood.

    1. She did not steal. There was nothin found on her at all

  13. Where is this store located?
I couldn’t understand the person calling out the address in the background.
