“It’s Not My Fault Y’all Look Dirty” Makeup Artist Declares “War on Dark Skin Bi*$@es”

The Light skin vs. Dark skin debate isn’t new and it’s not going away any time soon. And while I’m fairly certain most of the people reading this will agree this video is disgusting, I think it needs to be shared. If we are to begin to attempt to undo some of the lasting effects of slavery and the insistence on the European standard of beauty, we must first acknowledge how we ourselves perpetuate the ideal.  This video is just one example, however, I’ve seen it take shape in many ways. The following video was shared by Atalanta-based makeup artist Mardasha McMillan.

Mardasha offered the following apology via her social media page:

  1. This is a disgrace coming from a woman of color. We have enough battles to face as women and for being black that we need to end this ignorant battle of colorism. I’m dark skin and very proud of my complexion and when I see women that are lighter than me or even darker I look and say they are beautiful. I looked on her page and it seems like it’s all a joke to her and a means to push her Brand… I wouldn’t even give her a platform. I don’t believe she’s remorseful at all

  2. Pure Ignorance! I feel sorry for people like that who feel that their skin color is all they have to offer and is their complete identity. You can’t insult people and then say ” Oops I’m sorry I was mad” . It just doesn’t work that way.
Her posting such sad petty pathetic video and an even worst apology is clear that she is lacking a morale compass and a chance she was raised to think that light is best; poor choice of her parents to do so, but society doesn’t help. She needs some serious therapy.
As far as her being attacked for her complexion, probably had nothing to do with it, it’s a good chance it was her mouth.

  3. Pure garbage! I am a light black woman with a beautiful brown baby girl. I have had stares and even comments said by brown girls who dont know me like I am stuck up or that I think I am hot shit because of my complexion which is all false. We have to stop the slave mentality open our eyes as a people and recognize that what makes our community so beautiful and amazing is our diversity. Most want to be us, hate us, divide us why add to that.

  4. First of all. “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”, so whether or not you were under attack from darker skinned ladies, whatever was in you is what was shown. Please define “dirty” because the general meaning is soiled or unclean – think about what you are saying and your perception of darker skinned queens. It is so sad that we are still separating ourselves because of shades of colour. We are from a rich heritage so let’s carry ourselves as such. Lift up, support and encourage each other.

  5. Christine Were says:

This is the ultimate ignorance out there, am dark skin and very happy and content with my complexion,it’s a shame that she only thinks that her skin is all she has to offer, black ain’t dirty and at the end of it all she is still a black girl light skin or dark skin it doesn’t matter, somebody educate this FOOL!

  6. WHAT A SHAME!!! I am so sorry for you boo boo. I think tho girl is feeling herself so damn much that her head is swollen enough for her to think she needs them big ass goggles. I don’t think it’s her skin colour(CND) they look at when she walks in the room, I think it’s the size of her head and her bad attitude, oh and them big ass glitter goggles.. are you really walking the streets looking like that and wondering why people are giving you dirty looks. Smh?‍♂️

  7. I looked at her facebook page, and she seems to be trying to get famous off all of this.. added to that.. it is sad that she doesn’t know how to ignore people… they could mean mug all they want, they can say all they want… she could have just left them alone.. smh…

  8. Just wanna say all colors are beautiful and for you to say dark skin woman look dirty how dare you I’m am a beautiful black brown skin woman and am proud of my color would not have it any other way imma pray for you

  9. She crazy…I love my dark skin…I ain’t jealous of ish and have never felt my light skin bestie is cuter than me. I love me and the skin I’m in! Oan all men don’t find light skin girls attractive. She is clearly the one with insecurities…if I’m looking at you it doesn’t mean I’m mean muggin.

  10. Rodney Harrison says:

Who told you that you were cute? You alright.

  11. First of all…she isn’t that light. Secondly, the fact that she has mentally divided black women by skin tone means that she is NO better than the girls that allegedly made the comment. It’s very sad that women will separate themselves and act superior to women of darker complexions. I don’t think she is sincerely remorseful…it’s a sad attempt at doing damage control for her “brand”. She may have killed her struggling career before it even started. I couldn’t even waste that much time of my life watching that BS and she has already had a negative impact on her young influential followers. An apologetic person would’ve removed the video before attempting damage control but instead she is furthering the ignorance and standing by that dumb a** rant.

  12. Chauntil Bell says:

The gag is she NOT even light skin ?????

  13. What an absolute tool for white supremacy and ignorance. I wouldn’t want my child or family members in the company of someone so ignorant and classless.

These type of Black people are dangerous to children and future generations of Black Americans. Very sad.

  14. Esha the Diva says:

I hate to say it but I personally find its the “would be” light skins girls spitting this nonsense lol smh giving actual light skin girls a bad name smh

  15. Reminds me of Spike Lee’s School Daze in 2017

  16. Clearly ,she’s a mentally ill attention wh@re denigrating her sisters for possible coin. No miss thang you won’t become rich, I know you want to go on Dr.Phil, Ellen, etc a big ole publicity stunt throwing BW under the bus with your pathetic colorism which is doubly sick as you aren’t even light skin yourself.

See therapy and repent you already know in the long run this won’t fatten your wallet.

  17. Pepper4ever says:

She’s conventionally attractive*, sure, but very insecure and troubled, taking out her confused frustrations and obviously misdirected anger on other vulnerable black women. This can be blamed on a very racist and very oppressive society that caters to white people and white people only. To pretty much anyone, really, as long as they’re light by most people’s standards, and possess certain slender facial features, and have a certain body type, associated with white Europeans but definitely not an exclusively and uniquely “white” thing. She doesn’t have a light complexion, though. To me at least. Not light, not dark. And I’m not entirely impressed by her looks. Being conventionally attractive, looks-wise, she is quite…boring.

*by the obviously racist white Western beauty standards, which actually originate in white supremacy (look it up), that plague the entire world, except for maybe a few places that weren’t colonized by the savage, pink-fleshed ogre that is the white man

  18. This is mardasha McMillan and a sincere apology has been posted on my page as of two days ago. If you can share the negativity I hope you can share the positive as well.
