Gabrielle Union, 44, is, by far, one of the most inspirational women in Hollywood. Not only does she have the uncanny ability to look 20 years younger than her actual age, she’s an amazing actress, wife, stepmom, and business woman. She even has her own haircare line (read about that HERE), and recently launched her own fashion collection with New York & Company (read about that HERE),
She’s also a rape survivor, and a truth speaker. She’s been candid about being cyber-bullied for marrying Dwayne wade after he had a “break baby,” and she’s been honest about her struggles with depression. She is as real as it gets, and she’s getting even more real in her new book We’re Going to Need More Wine (pre-order HERE).
In her book, Union discusses her heartbreaking struggle to conceive.
I have had eight or nine miscarriages…For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant — I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle, or coming out of an IVF cycle.”
In an exclusive interview with People Magazine, Union reveals that she hasn’t always wanted to be a mother:
I never wanted kids…hen I became a stepmom, and there was no place I’d rather be than with them.”
She also shares:
“For so many women, and not just women in the spotlight, people feel very entitled to know, ‘Do you want kids?’” she says. “A lot of people, especially people that have fertility issues, just say ‘no’ because that’s a lot easier than being honest about whatever is actually going on. People mean so well, but they have no idea the harm or frustration it can cause.”
Still, Union is hopeful, and continues with her IVF treatment:
“Once a month I look like I’m in my second trimester because I’m bloated…It leads to the questions and it leads to the rumors and anytime I go into a doctor’s office I feel like I’m a member of SEAL Team Six undercover because I don’t want people to speculate.”
