Hair Salon Volunteer Told Biracial Girl Shaving Her Head Would Make Her Hair “Grow Back Straight”
Denise Robinson, mother of a 7-year-old daughter says a group home assaulted her daughter when they shaved her head without her permission. Denise’s daughter lives in a group home called Little Heroes Group Home which specializes in helping children with emotional and behavioral issues. Denise’s daughter lives there part time. The child was placed in the group home by The Department of Children and Families.
“There was no hygienically reason for them to shave my child’s head. There was no head lice. There was no bed bugs. There was no what I refer to as ‘rasta locks’ going on,” Robinson said.
“I am very upset. And I’m not going to stop being upset because I feel like my child was assaulted and violated.”
Little Heroes Group Home insists the haircut was part of their hygiene program and they have the authority to shave a child’s head anytime they feel necessary.

After
The group home is investigating the situation and did issue a statement saying:
“The program employs a diverse staff that is attentive to the needs of all children. Decisions regarding grooming are based on a variety of factors, including hygiene.”
Denise’s attorney, Richard Kendell says a volunteer at the hair salon talked to the little girl before the haircut:
“The volunteer informed this seven-year-old biracial child that by shaving her head, her hair would grow back straight,” said attorney Richard Kendell. “I find that appalling.”
Call me crazy but if my child is in another persons care and they need to alter my child’s appearance I better get a slip to file out with my signature or a phone call. I can’t imagine shaving this little’s girl hair was due to hygiene. Where’s the doctors note? Seems as though the staff didn’t know how to handle this bi-racial child’s hair. But what do I know? What do you think. Let us know.
