Tamar and Vince have called it quits after rumors of their turbulent marriage have been swirling for well over year. If you recall, we first caught wind of their issues when Bossip reported that the couple got into it so badly that Vince bit Tamar, drawing blood and forcing her to seek assistance from the police. When the police arrived Tamar refused medical assistance, although sources say her finger was in bad shape, and Vince fled the scene before they could arrive.
While Tamar later denied what was believed, at the time, to be a rumor, Tamar’s mother, Evelyn, is now reporting that that incident did happen, and that Tamar and Vince have been getting into knock out, drag out fights for years.
Evenlyn told The Grio
“They say the truth shall set you free. They’ve been trying to hide it for years. And I have the audacity to tell the truth…I think too many women are abused, and it’s high time that we stand up and stop this madness..Do you know how many women are killed each year? I just don’t want Tamar to be a part of that…If anything happens to Tamar, that’s Logan’s (Tamar and Vince’s son) loss. That’s my loss. That’s her family’s loss. I don’t want that kind of pain,” she adds. “Enough is enough. I don’t care how much they smile. I don’t care how much they pretend.”
Evelyn also told The Grio that vince always blamed “Tamar’s mouth,” for their fights.
It’s always ‘it’s Tamar’s mouth’…it’s always someone else. That does not give you the right to abuse her. Everybody has a mouth. Everyone should have the right to say what they want. Are you trying to beat [her] into submissiveness? No one has the right,” she says.
I think it’s important to note that Evelyn’s words aren’t just for her daughter. Indeed they are for all victims of domestic violence. Getting out is really the only option Furthermore, we must make the consequences of being tarnished with the label, “wife beater,” so reprehensible that men think twice before using their fists in an attempt to control and silence a woman. Like sexual abuse, spousal abuse/domestic violence allegations needs to be a career killer. Call it harsh, but the Vince Herberts of the world don’t deserve public forgiveness. For years he had the opportunity to seek help and stop beating his wife. Evelyn, who at one point lived with the couple, says even the Braxton sisters often tried to intervene to no avail.
So now that it’s done I hope for peace for Tamar, as does Evelyn, who tells the Grio:
“Sometimes you have to move forward, even when we don’t want to. Life is extremely short and things can happen within the twinkling of an eye. This too shall pass.”
As for Vince, I hope he falls into obscurity. He can also take R. Kelly, Woody Allen, Bill Cosby, Chris Brown, Harvey Weinstein, and all the rest right along with him. This behavior is not normal, it’s not acceptable and we, as a society, must make it so that these people feel the consequences of this kind of deviant behavior. Otherwise, Tamar and women like her will continue to suffer in silence, and potentially lose their lives.
