Now that most of us have comfortably settled into 2018, it’s time to start checkin’ for what’s new in the world of makeup again. For most retailers, winter sales are still poppin’ off, which gives you a little extra incentive (wink wink). Stalking the interwebs for that new new, I noticed that a few brands have really been keeping an ear to these social media streets in order to delivery on what their consumers really want. So check out my list of the hottest new releases of 2018 for the melanated makeup lover.
NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation $49: A 16 hour formula with a skin-like finish in 33 shades (10 of which are medium dark-deep). NARS is well known for getting undertones right across the shade range spectrum, so it’s worth a visit to Sephora to grab a few samples of the shades closest to yours to find your perfect match. With the winter months being super drying on the skin, this formula may be a godsend for even oily skin types. And unlike their very popular Sheer Glow foundation, this one comes with a pump!
Pat McGrath Labs MOTHERSHIP IV Decadence Palette $125: Auntie Pat has been cranking out some incredible palettes for the latter part of 2017. With the introduction of the MOTHERSHIP eyeshadow series, she created a trio of palettes with gorgeous packaging, incredibly pigmented shadows, stunning color stories, and of course the highest of quality. Pat recently debuted a fourth sister to the palette family and she is outstanding! Decadence is aptly named because these colors are rich, jewel tones that give off a regal feel. That gold tho!!! You truly get what you pay for with Pat McGrath Labs products. Treat yourself to this luxury black owned brand. You wont be disappointed.
Rihanna won 2017 with the launch of Fenty Beauty. Most notable was the foundation with 40 shades inclusive of every skin tone. Since launch, she has released a holiday collection and a universal red lipstick which looks good on everyone! Her most recent release gave the girls exactly what they’ve been craving which is a full range of lipsticks from the brand. This plush matter formula comes in 14 shades and range from neutrals, to reds, pinks, jewel tones, and bold pastels. The pigmentation is on point in one layer, and while the finish is matte, it is very comfortable. There are tons of reviews out there including one with our girl Lisa, and her friend Actually Ashly (CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO). There’s a shade for everyone so be sure to try these out for 2018.
Wet N’ Wild PRO Brush Line Bundle $69: During the holiday season, the Twitter beautyverse was clamoring for WNW to bundle these rose gold brushes. Well, looks like their tweets were received because now these beautiful brushes are available as a 10 piece set for an amazing price! After the outrage from a certain company trying to gouge customers over the price of a 16 piece brush set (*cough* KYLIE *cough*) it’s refreshing to see a brand pull together a quality set for their consumer that is appropriately priced. The rose gold feral and handles are stunning and the reviews have been excellent on WNW brushes.
NYX Complete Control Blending Sponge $10: If you’re just not into the Beauty Blender, or its $20 price tag, perhaps this one will win you over. The precision angles are ideal for baking, blending contour, and more! The size and texture are ideal for blending liquid to cream foundations as well. At half the price of high end beauty sponges, it’s also easier to throw away once it’s worn out. Give this new beauty sponge a try and leave the high priced sponges in 2017!
Mented Nail Lacquer $8 each or $15 for all: Mented Cosmetics filled a much needed niche in 2017 with the introduction of their nude lipsticks for women of color. The reviews have been awesome and they’ve been gradually expanding their brand to include lip glosses and now, nail polish! This trio of lacquers all complement brown skin beautifully. The affordable price tag doesn’t hurt either! Releases around the holiday season, these may have flown under your radar, but I’d urge you to pick them up if you love a home mani/pedi session. This black-owned brand is focused on us, so you know it’s gonna be worth it!
Juvia’s Place Douce Eyeshadow Palette (use code LISA to save 10% off of any order)$21.50: A black owned brand that never disappoints when it comes to giving us all of the pigmentation our melanin can handle! Can you tell I’m a fan? Their latest palette, Douce, is just so damn pretty! There’s no other way to describe the color story of this palette. The shades absolutely POP and what’s even better is you don’t need a companion palette to achieve a look! You’ve got everything you need from transition shade to crease color. With 4 shimmers and 5 mattes she’s just perfection! As usual, the price is right and you can even get an additional 10% off by using code LISA at checkout (yes, I plugged the good sis!).
Juvia’s Place Festival Palette
Set to be released next week, this newest palette is sure to stop your haters dead in their tracks. The two accompanying liquid lipsticks ain’t so shabby, either. See for yourself:
Real Techniques Prep Prime Set $20: Now as much as we love a good beat, it’s important to start off with the best canvas for applying our makeup. Real Techniques has come through with a 4 piece brush set designed for skin prep and I am here for it! Each piece is designed for a sanitary application of your skincare and primer before foundation. If you’re like myself, and have resolved that this is the year of smooth and clear skin, then you need this set in your life.
MakeupForMelaninGirls Melanin Magic Palette $40: When a brand has the word melanin in it, you already know pigmentation is going to be a given. Also, as you may have guessed, MakeupForMelaninGirls is a Black-owned brand. This pressed glitter palette is POPPIN’ with 18 colors designed to be applied with your fingers for a glamorous sparkle to your eye look with little to no fallout and no need for glitter glue! This formula is perfect for the girls who are a bit intimidated by glitter but would love to shine bright like a diamond for 2018. Our good sis, Jackie Aina has put her cosign on this product with a review and demo (below). The Melanin Magic Palette is on backorder (that’s how bomb it is) but you can get on their mailing list for an email alert when it’s back in stock.
