I Tried This Hair Challenge For 14 Days and My Natural Hair Has Never Looked Better

This Post is sponsored by Pantene, but all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Ladies, raise your hand if you’re guilty of switching your hair products frequently and recklessly. You can feel free to count me amongst the guilty because prior to embarking on this hair challenge, your girl was notorious for using whatever hair products I happened to get my hands on. This is especially true when it comes to washing. I rarely used shampoo, and typically most conditioners give me enough slip to go on about my day. Pantene, however, wanted to challenge these practices. They asked me to try their Gold Series Shampoo and Conditioner for 14 days and share my results and progress with you along the journey.

This Pantene Shampoo and Conditioner is paraben-free, sulfate-free, dye-free, and infused with Argan. Now, keep in mind, I wasn’t dealing with any major hair issues. For instance, I’m not dealing with breakage or split ends, but like most women with natural hair, my hair gets dry fairly easily. Given that fact, I’ve always been more inclined to pay attention to my styling products and oils, but not so much my washing practices. I didn’t think it mattered. But it does.

I knew after a single washing with the Gold Series Shampoo on Day 1 that indeed, a good moisturizing shampoo is a must.  Just look how my curls popped after a single wash:

The Gold Series Conditioner also left my hair feeling soft and detangled.

Please note that during this challenge the only products I used in my hair were the Pantene Gold Series Shampoo and Conditioner, and the Pantene Gold Series Curling Pudding. I intentionally limited the number of products I used so I could give a fair and accurate assessment of how these products performed on my hair.

By Day 7, on a styled twist out, I was able to see that my tresses were indeed flourishing. More shine, more hold, and more volume.

I live in the northeast, so as many of you know the temperatures right now are freezing. That being said, wash n’ gos and frequent washing (more than once a week), aren’t my thing. Still, between washing, I couldn’t help but notice how soft my hair was to the touch, but more than that, my hair was fuller. I won’t go so far as to say my hair grew an inch in two weeks, but it certainly looked more voluminous.

I added perm rods to an old twist out on day 14 and came out with these results:

You see that volume?! Bear in mind, I didn’t use any heat to achieve that style.

All in all, I’d say give the Pantene Gold Series Shampoo and Conditioner a shot. They are affordable and available at most national retailers. I washed my hair twice during this challenge and by day 14, I was a believer

Final Thoughts

My biggest take away from this challenge is that my hair loves shampoo. It responds better to conditioner and styling products when properly washed, and the Pantene Gold Series Shampoo, I promise you, is now a staple in my wash routine. Co-washing may feel better to the touch, because, after all, it’s conditioner, but you really should start your styling process on a fully clean head of hair. As naturals, we’ve been taught to steer clear of “over-shampooing,” but I think the stigma against shampoo is perhaps what contributed to my dull, frizzy, and lifeless strands. Indeed, I can say with absolute certainty that throughout this journey I had far less bad hair days than I would normally have. Heck, I’d venture to say I didn’t have any bad hair days.

Ladies, share your thoughts below! Will you try the Pantene 14-day challenge to see how your hair responds? If so, be sure to share your results with me.
