Chile, when I saw Billy Porter strut across that red carpet draped in this magnificent work of art by designer Christian Siriano, I said to myself, “everybody else can just take a seat or take their a$$es back home.”
Look, I know the Oscars is about honoring the best of the best actors and actresses, but the Oscars red carpet is about the fashunz, honey. The fashunz. And our brother Billy did not disappoint.
Billy did not come to play, y’all. Not even a little bit. And while Billy is fast known for wowing us on the red carpet, his talents far extend beyond gowns and baubles. Billy is an art-teest.
While he is currently starring in the hit FX show, Pose, According to Wikipedia:
Porter won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his role as Lola in Kinky Boots at the 67th Tony Awards. For the role, Porter also won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical and Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical. Porter also won the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album for Kinky Boots.
Like, I said, he is an art-teest in every sense of the word. And when it comes to blurring the lines between what is masculine and what is feminine in fashion, Porter is here to take all of your preconceived notions and shove em where the sun don’t shine.
“My goal is to be a walking piece of political art every time I show up. To challenge expectations. What is masculinity? What does that mean?” he told Vogue…Women show up every day in pants, but the minute a man wears a dress, the seas part. It happened to me at the Golden Globes [when I wore a pink cape], and I was like, really? Y’all trippin’? I stopped traffic!”
He sure did! Take a look for yourself:
“I have always used clothes as a tool for self-expression and find immense pleasure in celebrating life, love and joy through fashion,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
Listen, I’m just here for all of it. And if you are, too, I suggest you take a stroll through Billy’s Instagram feed. Here are a couple of my favs:
